YEREVAN. - Armenian capital Yerevan's mayor, Karen Karapetyan, on
Wednesday submitted his resignation, Zhoghovurd daily writes.
"But [President] Serzh Sargsyan recommended him to wait one day, until
the mayor of Paris returns to France, and only then to announce that.
According to other information, Karen Karapetyan's resignation
will be announced on Monday. It has not yet become clear as to what
made the mayor 'with a drive' to make such decision. There were two
hypotheses: First, that Karapetyan has problems with Serzh Sargsyan,
since his actions have solely caused discontent among the society,
[and thus] worked against Sargsyan. Second, simply his Russian
'friends' invited him to Moscow. We also found out that Sargsyan
was not particularly against Karapetyan's resignation. In any case,
the paper attempted to find out the accuracy of the news from the
mayor's spokeswomen Shushan Sardaryan. She denied. 'No, there is no
such thing.' But our sources assure that Karapetyan will soon receive
a high position from Moscow and leave Yerevan," Zhoghovurd writes.
