MP Aragats Akhoyan and artistic head of the "Akunk" ensemble Sargis
Alaverdyan participated in the opening and blessing of the St. Kirakos
Armenian Church of Diyarbakir (formerly Tigranakert).

"We witnessed an interesting fact. Posters reading "Welcome home" in
Armenia were posted on the walls of the City Hall of Diyarbakir. The
Mayor even spoke Armenian, when he hosted members of the "Akunk"
    ensemble," Aragats Akhoyan said.

The meetings in both Diyarbakir and Van were impressive. During
the meeting with Armenian delegates the day before the earthquake
the Mayor of Van said the participation of Armenians was important,
since they were landlords, not guests.

Armenians called the Mayor, offering the assistance of the 46-member
Armenian group. The latter expressed his deep gratitude. Human
misfortune has nothing to do with politics.

Both Aragats Akhoyan and Sargis Alaverdyan are confident that the
meetings in Diyarbakir and Van were very sincere and had nothing to
do with the traditional Turkish policy. They say, it's apparent that
these regions are rather autonomous and are exempt from the influence
of the central government of Turkey.
