The mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan said the reason for his
resignation has nothing to do with domestic affairs or government
intrigues. He is going to take on a new job, and he has also personal
reasons to leave the position of mayor.

Karen Karapetyan said he will take on a job in Russia. Earlier the
press reported that Gazprom offered a high position to Karapetyan.

So the mayor of Yerevan is the second Armenian official who leaves
his position for a job abroad.

The first was Armen Harutiunyan who was offered the position of UN
Human Rights Commissioner for which he left his position in Armenia.

Karen Karapetyan is the second official to leave his position in
    Armenia for an offer abroad.

Perhaps this is a symbolic phenomenon which is evidence that in
Armenia it is even unpleasant to occupy a high-ranking position.

Meanwhile, this country seems to be for officials, who seem to have
no problems, they are legally protected, financially secured.

In fact, they are also prone to migrating and working abroad. And
perhaps the motivation is not the financial appeal or prestige and
scope. Most probably, the reason is to be away from Armenia, away
from the Armenian government because dealing with this system has
become unpleasant even for its participants.

And perhaps it is not a surprise because in Armenia the system
survives by devouring itself. A strange situation when the particles
and participants of the system feel safer outside, while inside the
system they feel discomfort and risk.

Perhaps this is the last stage of the psychological and moral crisis,
and if even in this stage the system fails to understand the need for
internal reform, the collapse of the system will be inevitable and
only the accompanying circumstances will decide when this collapse
    will take place.
