AMANDA PAUL DENIES HER OWN WORDS, WHILE AZERBAIJANI MEDIA IN NO HURRY TO PUBLISH REFUTATION
Panorama, Armenia
Oct 28 2011
After Panorama.am published an article citing Azerbaijani media
saying that political analyst of the Brussels-based European Policy
Centre Amanda Paul, who is very popular in Turkey and Azerbaijan,
made a scandalous statement:
"Azerbaijan has an absolute right to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict through military means because the negotiation process
supported by the OSCE Minsk Group has yielded no result for around
two years, with the international community exerting no pressure on
Armenia," Amanda Paul denied her own words.
Moreover, Andrew Williams, Communication Manager at the European
Policy Centre, phoned Panorama.am to assure the editorial staff that
Amanda Paul had never made any statement on Nagorno-Karabakh.
However, there is a noteworthy circumstance: whereas Azerbaijani
sources reprinted the quotation by Amanda Paul, they are in no
hurry to publish a refutation, though two days have passed. We will
remind that this statement, which they ascribe to Amanda Paul, who
positions herself as a European expert, is an obvious war propaganda
and incitement to hostility and violence. This is a direct violation
of Article 20 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political
Rights (ICCPR).
Andrew Williams either did not manage to reach on the phone the
Azerbaijani sources, which, unlike the Armenian news agencies,
reprinted this article, or his call was unanimously ignored in
Azerbaijan, which is an eloquent evidence of the working methods of
Azerbaijani journalists.
