YEREVAN. - Armenian Armnews TV channel took an exclusive interview
from Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan. According to the mayor, his
resignation is connected to a new job, which may be in Russia, and
there are also personal reasons.
Regarding the question whether Karapetyan has discussed his decision
with the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the latter's response,
as his office is a political one, the Mayor said that it was a very
difficult decision to make but the President respected it.
Karapetyan has much pondered on it. He is thankful to the President
Sargsyan and the Republican Party of Armenia for the trust. Moreover,
his resignation does not mean that he leaves the political team of
Armenian president. The Mayor also thanked the Yerevan citizens and
asked forgiveness if he has not fulfilled any project. Karapetyan
stated that his resignation has nothing to do with inner authority
or political disagreements. He enjoyed trust by the President, who
appointed him.
In response to the question what was changed during a year that caused
the resignation, as the office is an administrative and political one,
Karapetyan said that he does not agree that it is a political office.
It is a public office as it deals with various classes of society.
Besides, personal reasons theoretically were possible to forecast,
whereas other existing reasons were not.
"Anyway, it was very interesting and creative to be a Mayor,"
concluded Karapetyan.
