Heritage party proposes holding hearings on Trchkan waterfall
20:05 - 27.10.11
Parliamentary faction of the opposition party Heritage has proposed to
hold parliamentary hearings on the controversial construction on
Trchkan Waterfall.
In a letter addressed to Chairman of the National Assembly Hovik
Abrahamyan and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and
Environment Khachik Harutyunyan, the party said the issue has incited
a lot of tension in the society and therefore needs to be discussed.
The move comes after environmentalists voiced criticism against a
government decision to allow the construction of a hydro power plant
on River Chichkhan that generates Trchkan Waterfall - considered a
protected monument of nature.
The party also said it would help with the organization of the
hearings and in ensuring that interested parties would be invited to
participate in the hearings.
