Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said
today that the range and quality of the arms and military technique
owned by the Armenian Armed Forces expands every year.
The Minister said today that the Armenian air defense system is
annually upgraded, Mediamax reports.
Seyran Ohanyan said that Armenian Army has S-300 air defense missiles
and didn't rule out that Armenia will eventually have S-400 missiles
as well.
Mediamax notes that in December 2010, for the first time the Armenian
Defense Ministry officially announced that is it had S-300 missiles.
This news was disseminated by AP. The report read that announcement
was made to remind neighboring Azerbaijan about the dangers of renewing
military conflict. Associated Press quoted Armenian Defense Ministry's
Spokesman David Karapetyan who stated that the missiles would "coerce
Azerbaijan into keeping the peace".
The report noted that it was known that Russia had long maintained
S-300s on its base in Armenia, but the Armenian Defense Ministry's
statement was the first acknowledgment that Armenia had S-300 missiles
of its own.
