TAVUSH PROVINCE, September 1. / ARKA /. Armenia's president Serzh
Sargsyan said today that the country's rural communities and the
agriculture make the basis of Armenia's development.
"I understand that many of you would like to move to the capital, but
if there is no village, there will be neither Armenia, nor Yerevan,"
he said at a meeting with residents of Voskevan village during a
symbolic opening of a new gravity irrigation system.
Sargsyan stressed that farmers should not leave their land and continue
to work because after a few years the difference between the village
and the capital will be reduced significantly. But he added this
requires a strong will and love for the land.
The irrigation system was commissioned on June 15. It was built on a
$5.4 million loan provided to Armenia by the International Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD).
