The outcome of the Nagorno Karbakh peace talks will depend upon
incumbent Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's decision to run for a
second term, a political analyst has said.
Karen Bekaryan, the president of an Armenian NGO called European
Integration, told a news conference on Thursday that Medvedev's
decision to run for presidency in 2012 would marl a positive signal
in the conflict settlement process, creating a positive opinion both
for his personality and the country.
"In the run-up to the presidential election we will feel thrilled to
work with the parties, using all possible tools to record a positive
result," the expert said, adding that current pause in the process
will likely last until November or December.
In the meantime he ruled out the possibility of any vacuum, saying
that American or European initiative might replace the Russian factor
in case the letter retreats.
