4.6 PERCENT GROWTH OF GDP EXPECTED IN ARMENIA - PM

YEREVAN. - Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on Tuesday attended
the meeting of Armenian MFA central staff and heads of diplomatic
missions abroad.
Tigran Sargsyan spoke about the current state of Armenia's economy,
presented the upcoming programs and planned activities of the
government. The Prime Minister summed up the economic results of
the first half of 2011 and noted that 4.6 percent growth of GDP is
expected in 2011.
As for inflation, according to him, from 10-percent inflation stage
Armenia has stepped into 5 percent stage, which will create favorable
environment for curbing inflation in 2012.
Reflecting on the priority programs of the government, the PM
said that they also cover the process of improving the business
environment. During current year, the government carried out important
activities in this area, particularly, in the direction of tax and
customs administration, the introduction of electronic reporting system
that should significantly reduce the contacts of tax inspectors with
representatives of the business environment.
Prime Minister Sargsyan informed the diplomats that the concept of
industrial policy and the program of its implementation are being
developed in Armenia for the first time. It will encompass the economic
structure of Armenia for the next 10 years, identify the present and
highlight comparative advantages and constraints, he added.
