Deployment of radar by Turkey anti-Iranian step - expert
September 03, 2011 | 03:20
YEREVAN. - The deployment of early warning radar in Turkey is directed
against Iran and possibly Russia, expert in Turkish studies Artak
Shakaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. The radars have already been
taken out of Czech Republic and Poland, he added.
`Turkey has played the role of protector of the rights of Muslims for
years. However, it disclosed itself as a protector of West's
interests. By deploying radars, which can be considered an
anti-Iranian and pro-Israeli step, Turkey reveals its true colors,'
the expert said.
According to Shakaryan, although Ankara freezes relations with Tel
Aviv in military and trade sphere, Turkish-Israeli relations remain
strategically important. No matter how Turkey and Iran show they are
in good terms, they still remain competitors.
The expert also stated that Turkey strives to be the leader in the
Muslim world. Whatever happens in the Muslim world, Turkey interferes
as a mediator.
Moreover, Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu intends to conquer the Arab world
not with weapon but by cultural expansion in accordance with
neo-Ottoman ideology, he stressed.
Armenian News-NEWS.am earlier informed that warning radars will be
deployed in Turkey within the framework of anti-missile defense system
created by U.S. and NATO. The decision was made at NATO's last year
summit in Lisbon and Turkey always supported works related to
implementation of the initiative.
