anniversary of the Artsakh Republic's proclamation

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS:
President of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh Bako Sahakyan delivered
a congratulatory speech at a solemn event dedicated to the 20th
anniversary of the Artsakh Republic's proclamation.
The speech runs as follows:
"Dear compatriots,
Respectable guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today we celebrate a glorious nationwide holiday - the 20th
anniversary of the Artsakh Republic's proclamation. Indeed, it is a
holiday for all Armenians. Throughout centuries our nation has been
dreaming to restore its lost statehood, have free and independent
homeland and take its worthy place amid the international community.
Artsakh has always been the bearer and pioneer of these ideas. There
is no coincidence that it symbolizes unity and the rebirth of national
self-consciousness of the world spread Armenians.
On September 2, 1991 the people of Artsakh made a historical decision
and publicly announced its firm determination to live freely and
independently, determine its own fate on its own soil. And for already
20 years we have been embarked on the course of building democratic,
civil and independent society and statehood, the course we consider to
be the only correct one.
On this way our people have overcome numerous difficulties, registered
great achievements and success.
In the crucible of the imposed war our defense army was to be born and
formed. Today we can proudly say that we have a standing and efficient
army, which accomplishes its mission with credit and is always ready
to solve any military task. The continuous strengthening of the
Artsakh Republic Defense Army and defense capability of our state is
among the pivotal goals that have been in the spotlight of the
authorities.
Another important achievement is the Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora cohesive
trinity. During these crucial years hand by hand with our sisters and
brothers from Diaspora we could overcome with flying colors the
ordeals that fell to our lot, gain victories in the battlefield of the
imposed war, restore our destroyed economy and embark on the path of
development.
But, still we have a lot to do. There are a numerous plans and goals.
Today as before we are resolute and united in realizing our national
aspirations, in completing the work of our perished brothers.
On this holiday we bow down to the memory of the brave sons of the
Armenian people who sacrificed their lives for our homeland's bright
future. Eternal glory and honor to them!
I want to recall friends of Artsakh and express a deep gratitude to
them, to all those who have been with us during the 20 years of
independence, helped in bringing our voice to the international
community. We are thankful to them for the inestimable support to
Artsakh.
Dear compatriots,
I express my warmest congratulations on this memorable holiday and
wish peace, happiness and all the best.
Our path is constant and irreversible, our will is unshakeable, our
spirit is strong. The best proof of that is the steadily developing
Artsakh Republic.
Long live the Artsakh Republic!
Long live the Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora trinity!
Glory to the heroic Armenian people!"
