YEREVAN. - The South Caucasus region should not have an army like the
Armenian army, said ANC representative Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, during a
press conference held today, reflecting on the recent death of Aghasi
Abrahamyan at Yeghnikner military unit in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
"Murderers must stand trial and answer for their actions. Damned is the
parent whose child is viciously killed at the hands of his compatriot,"
Yeghiazaryan underscored, adding that "the first and foremost person
responsible for all incidents occurring in the army is the Minister
of Defense, who could not improve the state of our army."
Aghasi Abrahamyan, 18, a soldier of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army
was taken to hospital unconscious on August 26, and he died there
an hour later. Despite evident traces of brutality on his body, it
was initially reported that he was poisoned and had died as a result
of falling from his bed at the medical care unit. The soldier's death
caused a great stir among the public, and an officer and a soldier were
arrested within the framework of the criminal case that was launched.
