MINISTER NALBANDIAN MEETS EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE SOUTH CAUCASUS

On September 7 Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian received
European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus
and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Philip Lefort.
Congratulating Mr. Lefort on his appointment, Edward Nalbandian voiced
confidence that he would contribute to the further reinforcement of
Armenia-EU relations.
The Foreign Minister noted that "Armenia-EU relations have always been
one of the priority directions of Armenia's foreign policy, and special
attention has been paid to all aspects of Armenia-EU cooperation."
The interlocutors discussed the negotiations under way within
the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy and the Eastern
Partnership Program, noting that a great progress has been registered
in the recent period.
Edward Nalbandian and Philip Lefort referred to the talks on the
Association Agreement, and the forthcoming negotiations on the
facilitation of the visa regime and creation of the free trade zone.
The parties attached importance to the conduct of the Eastern
Partnership summit later this month.
The interlocutors discussed the latest developments in the Karabakh
conflict settlement process. In that context Philip Lefort expressed
EU's support to the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group towards peaceful
resolution of the conflict.
