President Serzh Sargsyan extended condolences to President Dmitry
Medveddev of Russia on the air crash in Yaroslavl. Serzh Sargsyan
asked to convey his sincere condolences to the families and friends
of the victims.
"We mourn with you the tragic death of the players of the "Locomotive"
hockey team and the crew in an air crash near "Tunoshn" airport,"
the massage reads.
The crash occurred on 7 September 2011 at 16:02 local time, when a
Yak-42 passenger aircraft, carrying the professional ice hockey team
and coaching staff of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey
League (KHL), crashed near Yaroslavl, Russia.
The team was on its way to Minsk, Belarus, in order to start the
2011-12 KHL season. All players from the main roster plus four from the
farm team were on board the aircraft, which struck a tower mast, caught
fire and crashed shortly after take-off, 2.5 km from Tunoshna Airport.
