5,000 OPPOSITION SUPPORTERS RALLY IN ARMENIA

    Associated Press
    2011-09-10

About 5,000 opposition supporters have rallied in Armenia's capital
    to call for early elections.

Friday's rally was staged by the opposition Armenian National Congress
led by former President Levon Ter-Petrosian.

The demonstrators demanded the release of an opposition activist,
kept in custody since a clash with police a month ago. Ter-Petrosian
warned that the Congress would boycott talks with the government if
    the activist isn't released.

Ter-Petrosian's supporters rallied in Yerevan following the February
2008 presidential election, claiming the vote was flawed. The protests
turned violent in the first days of March, when clashes with police
left 10 people dead and more than 250 injured.
