Armenia's Ombudsman has called on government agencies to avoid actions
impeding freedom of expression and flow of information in the society
and leading to the development of the culture of censorship.
In a statement issued on Friday, Karen Andreasyan said that though he
does not have the right to intervene in cases under investigation,
he is expressing his deepest concerns over any threat to freedom of
expression and exercise of free media.
"Particularly, a call is being made on all government agencies to avoid
resorting to such actions that block the freedom of expression and flow
of information in our society, in fact leading to the establishment
of the culture of censorship," read the statement.
Referring to the principles of European Court of Human Rights on
pre-trial publication, Andreasyan said that even a little delay of
the publication may render it useless and uninteresting.
