NATURE PROTECTION MINISTRY VIOLATES ITS LEGISLATION IN REGARD WITH "TRCHKAN" WATERFALL

Nature Protection Ministry has violated the Armenian environmental
legislation.
According to Ecolur, on August 8, Nature Protection Minister Aram
Harutyunyan met with the environmentalists in front of the government
building and confirmed than the Ministry has issued a positive opinion
to construct a small hydropower plant near "Trchkan" waterfall in
Lori Region.
According to Government decision No. 967 dated on 14 August 2008,
"Trchkan" waterfall is included in the list of water monuments of
nature and located on the right bank of Trchkan tributary to Chichkhan
River. "Dalma Sona" NGO Chairman Ruzan Ghazaryan said that according
to Article 19 (1) of RA Law "On Especially Preserved Territories in
Nature" any activity endangering the preservation of natural monument
is banned in the territory of natural monument.
