Thursday, 08 September 2011 09:53 .Turkish President comments on
    Karabakh resolution, ties with Armenia.

Unresolved Nagorno Karabakh problem is a main hindrance to situation
favorable for peace, security and cooperation in the South Caucasus.

The statement came from Turkish President Abdullah Gul in the interview
with Moskovskiy Komsomolets and MK-Turkey news portal.

"The special importance of the South Caucasus, as a region, neighboring
Turkey and Russia is evident. We, guided by the strategy, aimed
at creating the situation of peace, stability and welfare in the
neighboring region, tend to achieve a state, favorable for peace,
security and cooperation and in this region", the Turkish president
    said.

He noted that the Karabakh problem is currently the main obstacle in
attaining such a favorable climate in the South Caucasus.

"I suppose that Turkey's opinion on this issue coincides with Russia's
view. The progress which might be achieved on the way to the Karabakh
conflict settlement will be critical in this view", Gul said.

The Turkish president voiced his country's readiness to extend
all-embracing support to the search of the problem solution, a process
that involves personally Russian President Medvedev, and also do
everything possible for the further settlement of the conflict.

"The progress attained on this path will undoubtedly have a positive
impact on the Turkish-Armenian relations. This is Turkey's position
on normalization of ties with Armenia. We sincerely hope for the
successful completion of the normalization process.

In the process of formation of stable peace in the South Caucasus
and establishing cooperation and welfare in the region and beyond its
bounds, normalization of ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well
as Turkey and Armenia should not be viewed as a separate process,
since it demands consideration on the regional level", Gul said.
