Doctor Beat Tortured Soldier and Left Unattended
New details of the death of Aghasi Abrahamyan on August 26 in the military
unit where he served became known. The name of the doctor who beat Aghasi at
the medical station was published, the chief of the medical service is
Vardges Poghosyan.
The deputy chief of the Defense Ministry's investigative unit, S. Papyan
said he is charged with abuse of authority, transgression of authority or
inaction of authority under Article 375 of the Criminal Code. No new charges
have been brought against Poghosyan. The sadist doctor is from Aruch
Village, Ashtarak.
Aghasi who underwent torture at the military unit was taken to the medical
station headed by Poghosyan where Aghasi was `treated' with a painkiller. He
was left without medical care and surgery and even without food for 10
hours. Vardges Poghosyan arrived then and attacked the injured soldier
shouting at him that he pretends feeling bad. He pushed him to the floor and
kicked him.
The conclusion of forensic examination states different injuries, bruises,
hemorrhages all over the body, it is not clear how many hours before his
death they were caused. A long span of time is mentioned, 6 to 24 hours
before death. Most injuries were caused with blunt, hard objects. The
forensics concluded that Aghasi had died at 22.25 from severe brain injury.
It is also known that Aghasi, beaten severely, injured and on the verge of
death, was taken to the hospital of Alashyan in a car which broke down
halfway. Two doctors have been arrested and charged with minor offenses.
Nothing is known about the incident which happened during the night shift of
sentry duty.
The incident at the military unit about urinating between Aghasi Abrahamyan
and his fellow serviceman took place at night, at around 3 am. According to
the military prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan, this is the first episode of
violence for which one serviceman has been remanded in custody. He is
charged with violation of rules of conduct among soldiers under Article 359.
Nothing is known about the incident at night in the military unit. It is not
known how many people were involved in it. The incident of the military unit
is the most secret episode of the investigation.
