Azerbaijan's MFA comments on Uruguayan official's statements on Karabakh
Sat 10 September 2011 08:01 GMT | 4:01 Local Time
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has spread a comment on the statement of
Uruguayan Foreign Minister Luis Almagro on Karabakh.
The comment reads:
As is seen, the information has been disseminated by Armenian news
websites. We have historically been witnesses of distortion of
information by Armenian mass media, who are always trying to set up
the desire for the reality.
Our embassy in Buenos Aires is clarifying this situation and has
already contacted the Foreign Ministry of Uruguay. While speaking to
our ambassador in Buenos Aires Ahmedzade, Deputy Foreign Minister of
Uruguay R.Carreras confirmed that Uruguay respects the principles of
international law, supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and
the activity of the Minsk Group.
I have to repeat that our embassy continues dealing closely with this
situation, the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan says.
Several hours ago Armenian media reported with joy about the so-called
intention of Uruguay to recognize independence of the separatist
Nagorno-Karabakh (the so-called "NKR").
At a meeting initiated by the Committee Hay Dat in South America and
Uruguay-Armenia parliamentary group dedicated to Armenia-Uruguay ties
on 9 September, Foreign Minister of Uruguay Luis Almagro allegedly
called to recognize the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh while
speaking of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to Armtoday, Luis Almagro allegedly said: "I am convinced
that Nagorno-Karabakh (occupied territories of Azerbaijan) must be
independent and it will join Armenia over time. This is the only way
to solve the problem.'
