Summing up the financial year 2010-2011 (July 2010 to June 2011),
the Yerevan Brandy Company registered a 9.4% increase in sales,
which is evidence of the financial-economic crisis receding.
However, the slow market recovery rates do not allow the company to
ensue the pre-crisis sales. Specifically, the 2010/2011 sales show
a 25% decrease as compared with 2008/2009. Also, despite the 10%
increase in sales last financial year, the company's profit showed
a 25% decrease. A forced reduction of price for the "conventional"
brandies (ARARAT 3* and ARARAT 5*) in some markets accounts for the
situation. That price policy was aimed at promoting sales. This, in
turn, allowed the company to double grapes purchases, the YBC press
service reports.
This year, the YBC plans to purchase a total of 21,000 tons of grapes
from farmers. The Armavir branch (Armvir region) is to start purchases
on Sept. 15, Aigavan branch (Ararat region) on Sept. 16, the Berd
branch (Tavush region) on Sept. 24. Since the YBC attaches importance
to industrial development in Armenia's borderline regions, it plans
to purchase up to 3,000 tons of grapes in the Tavush region this year
against 2,500 tons last year. The Armavir and Aigavan branches will
purchase grapes at AMD 130 per kilo, and the Tavush branch, at AMD
120 per kilo. The company will pay the money to farmers within ten
days after the grapes are supplied.
Last year, the YBC Tavush branch launched the construction of a
seasoning unit, which is to be put into operation this year.
Implementing its Quality-Safety-Environment policy, the company got
an ISO 9001:2008 quality management certificate.
The YBC historical-tourist complex registered a 30% increase in tourist
visits in the financial year 2010-2011. Foreign media outlets (BBC,
Ren TV, Russia today) showed much interests in the ArArAt brand.
During the period under review, ArArAt brandies were exported to more
countries, including Greece, Israel, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland
and Uzbekistan.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Armenia's independence, the
YBC is producing a limited amount of special brandy Ararat. The brandy
will be made of the alcohol made from the grapes purchased in 1991.
The YBC also plans to resume the production of Dvin.
This October, the ARARAT brand will sponsor a traditional press tour
of Armenia for journalist from the CIS member-countries.
