ARMENIAN PM DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT SCIENTISTS' VIEWPOINT - OPPOSITION

YEREVAN. - Oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) shares the
fair concern of scientific society connected to the change of the
legal status of Yerevan Physics Institute (YerPhI). ANC scientific
and education committee released a statement on this connection.
"Armenian government on September 1st has made a decision and changed
the legal status of YerPhI. It was reestablished as foundation.
However, the decision was made without the participation of the
institute staff, without taking into account viewpoint of the
scientific society and proper scientific justifications. Changing
the legal status of the institute by the state aimed to escape
the financial obligations. This is the usual regime's strategy. ANC
scientific and education committee shares fair concern of the society,
and believes it is necessary to stop the process of reestablishing the
institute into foundation. The state should first of all guarantee
the staff and scientific council of scientific research institute
to make decisions on their reestablishment freely and also provide
necessary conditions for scientific activities," reads the statement.
