ARMENIAN PREMIER MEETS WITH UNDP DELEGATION

    Tert.am
    15.09.11

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan held a meeting Sept 15 with
a delegation headed by Ms. Dafina Gercheva, United Nations Resident
Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia.

Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Raul De Luzenberger
    participated in the meeting.

The Armenian premier made a high appraisal of bilateral cooperation
and stressed the importance of developing it, the Armenian Government's
    press office reports.

The sides discussed the EU-funded and UNDP-implemented South Caucasus
Integrated Border Management (SCIBM) program, particularly the
possibility of UNDP's involvement in the renovation of checkpoints. In
this context, the sides addressed issues of financing the renovation
and modernization of Armenia's checkpoints. The sides stressed that
negotiations for financing with EU and a number of international
agencies will enable relevant cooperation. A premier-headed Armenian
delegation is to leave for Brussels Sept. 19 to specify the sources
and mechanisms of financing the program.

The program envisages the modernization of the Bagratashen, Bavra
and Gogavan checkpoints. With this end in view, a Latvian consulting
firm has been employed to draft competition package. The aim is
to expand cooperation between the South Caucasus, EU member-states,
other interested international agencies, as well as encourage movement
    of goods and people.

As regards the possibility of the UNDP's involvement in the program,
the Armenian premier pointed out the importance of further cooperation
between task groups to discuss legal and technical tasks.
