GULBENKIAN ORCHESTRA TO PERFORM IN YEREVAN SEPT 15-16

The Gulbenkian Orchestra will perform in Yerevan Sept 15-16 2011 in
the framework of the 12th Yerevan Perspectives international music
festival.
The Sept 15 concert will star pianist Olli Mustonen, the Sept 16 one -
violinist Arabella Steinbacher.
The musicians will perform Beethoven, Dvorak, Khachaturyan and Brahms.
"We are happy that this brilliant orchestra will finally appear in
Armenia. A group of representatives of the Gulbekian Foundation have
come to Armenia together with the musicians for considering ways to
deepen their cooperation with our country," Director of the Yerevan
Perspectives festival Stepan Rostomyan said during a press-conference
on Thursday.
The Gulbenkian Orchestra (Portuguese: Orquestra Gulbenkian) is
a Portuguese symphony orchestra based in Lisbon. The orchestra
primarily gives concerts at the Grande Auditorio (Grand Auditorium)
of the Gulbenkian Foundation.
The Gulbenkian Orchestra is a Portuguese symphony orchestra based
in Lisbon. The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation founded the orchestra
in 1962 as the Orquestra de Camara Gulbenkian (Gulbenkian Chamber
Orchestra), consisting of 12 musicians. The ensemble subsequently
expanded in size and took on its current name in 1971. The orchestra
currently has 80 musicians of 12 nationalities. 4 of them are
Armenians.
