Armenia
YEREVAN. - The shortcoming of all three Armenian presidents throughout
the 20 years of independence is that they failed to build democracy
in Armenia, said the leader of Union for National Self-Determination
Paruyr Hayrikyan to a press conference on Tuesday.
"Our efforts to introduce multi-party system under Levon
Ter-Petrosyan's administration came to naught, however it is the
first President who currently speaks about multi-party system,"
said Hayrikyan.
He argued that Robert Kocharyan's early days in office were successful
until he made the Constitutional amendments and used them for his own
benefit. Kocharyan came down of constitutional way of establishing
a democracy under parliament's pressure.
Summarizing the activities of the three Armenian presidents - Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan - Hayrikyan stressed
that all of them lack acknowledgement of system of national values.
