ARMENIAN PRESIDENT DELIVERS OPENING REMARKS TO MILITARY PARADE

"The restoration of Armenia statehood is a fete, but a responsibility
also," President Serzh Sargsyan delivered a speech to the military
parade on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Armenia's
Independence.
President has recalled back those days of 1991s when our compatriots
were casting their ballots with their children, grandchildren who
were to inherit this country, to live in free and independent Armenia.
The President has stated that the choice of our people was conscious
and that no other post soviet country had those unfavorable conditions
we had: "A great part of the country suffered a big disaster, and
the other part was on the eve of war. But we passed our ballots to
our children and said yes, we're ready to accomplish a feat. And we
did it."
Though many still didn't believe in it. The restoration of Armenian
statehood is a fete, but a responsibility also, we were responsible
for our economy, culture, for our present and future. President Serzh
Sargsyan has also stressed the great contribution of Diaspora.
"In two decades we managed to record advancement, but still we have
both achievements and shortcomings. And in the forthcoming two decades
we must build a country in line with our ideals. I believe in it,
because I believe in our collective strength," said President Serzh
Sargsyan.
