YEREVAN.- Independence is truly our biggest achievement, Armenian
Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan said to news reporters, on
Wednesday, after the military parade celebrating the 20th anniversary
of Armenia's independence.
Ohanyan noted that those 20 years enabled all Armenian citizens
and military institutions to manifest themselves, and, in contrast
to other historical periods and in terms of guaranteeing security,
allowed us to deeply assess the security domain and coordinate the
activities of all branches of power.
The Minister added, however, that the Armed Forces are not a mere
display of equipment and personnel during military parades. "They
are not for military parades alone, and they can prove all that in
practice. We do not hold military parades every year, but rather on
anniversary years only."
The defense Minister also underscored that Armenian military servicemen
not only guarantee the security of their own statehood, but also
contribute to guaranteeing international security.
And in response to the question as to how the Armenian army would be in
20 years, Seyran Ohanyan said: "20 years later the Armenian army will
be more efficient, disciplined, and endowed with greater opportunities
for preparedness and acquiring new types of weaponry and ammunition."
