THIRD REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Today on September 21 Armenians worldwide celebrate the 20th
Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia. This day 20
years ago the Supreme Council of the Republic conducted a nation-wide
referendum to withdraw from the USSR. The voter turnout was almost
99%. Afterwards, the Parliament officially declared independence of
the Republic of Armenia.
Festive events under slogan "Armenia Is You" will be held throughout
the country. Yet on the eve of the Independence Day a great range of
events was held in the country: exhibitions, concerts, and forums. On
September 21 the festivities will start from early morning in the
Republic Square with a big military parade. The top leadership of
Armenia will visit the Yerablur Pantheon in Yerevan to pay tribute
to the fighters killed in the Artsakh Liberation War. Afterwards,
a solemn service will be held at Grigor Lusavoritch Church. Later
in the evening, a sound-and-light show and fireworks will be held in
the Republic Square.
Festivities will be held throughout the country. State structures,
diplomatic offices of Armenia in abroad, Armenian communities worldwide
will organize festive events.
Foreign guests have arrived in the country together with
representatives of the Armenian Diaspora. The budget spent over 3.8
million dollars.
The upcoming parade is the largest in the history of Armenia. It will
demonstrate the strength and achievements of the Armenian Armed Forces.
Over 4,000 servicemen and 300 military hardware vehicles will
participate in the parade with the Russian 102nd military base and
NKR Armed Forces to march in it. Besides military hardware, tactical
missile launchers Tochka-U, Smerch multiple launch rocket system,
9K72 Elbrus, self-propelled howitzers, anti- armor systems and
anti-aircraft forces will be involved in the parade. Fighters and
helicopters and native UAVs "Krunk" will demonstrated as well.
The Yerevan citizens will enjoy double holiday i.e. festivities
dedicated to the 2793th anniversary of Erebuni Yerevan. The festivities
will be rich and interesting, The city center will be limited to
traffic.
