WILL THE WEST GIVE MONEY?

Hraparak daily writes that on these days the President of Armenia
stated in a non-official circle that he took a final decision
that the election headquarter of the Republican Party at the next
parliamentary election will be headed by the National Assembly Speaker
Hovik Abrahamyan. "Noticing the angry look of the Prime Minister,
the president added that the Republican election ticket will be headed
by Tigran Sargsyan", the daily writes.
If this information is true, so, by the end of September, when Serzh
Sargsyan returns from his tour in the United States, France, Poland and
Russia, we should expect the government's resignation. It is perhaps
still not decided how the resignation will be held though probably
there are several options. For example, re-initiation by ARF of the
procedures of no-confidence to the government. But it can cause too
much noise, and it will be difficult for Serzh Sargsyan to explain
why the Republican Party ticket is headed by a hardly coping with the
responsibilities Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. So the other option
may be chosen: Serzh Sargsyan can simply dissolve the government and
say that Tigran Sargsyan has restored the economy, and he needs the
intellectual and non-oligarchic image of Tigran Sargsyan to obtain
loans, and to ensure victory at elections.
Especially because Tigran Sargsyan has kept saying in the last month
that the Armenian economy grows, international agencies increase its
rating and say about the growth of activity, inflation in general
halted. The other day he went to Brussels and achieved doubling
of the aid provided to Armenia within the Eastern Partnership -
now Armenia will annually receive not 25, but 50 million euros. Now
Serzh Sargsyan went to the United States and with him - the whole
financial and economic power and they will obviously not come back
with empty pockets. And if Barack Obama says during a meeting with
Sargsyan that he approved the reforms and that U.S. investments in
Armenia are growing, it generally can be regarded as a sensation of
Tigran Sargsyan.
Apparently, right these "victories" will form the basis of
the campaign. Serzh Sargsyan's team made sure that his rivals,
Ter-Petrosyan, Kocharyan hit at the "Achilles heel" of the economy.
Kocharyan generally intends to return to politics on the economic
horse, recalling that when he was president, Armenia prospered. And
Serzh Sargsyan urgently needs to address economic problems.
It is not necessary to rely on Russia; Sargsyan has 500 times thanked
Moscow for its 500 million loan, half of which went to Russian
enterprises. But he realized that it is not necessary to wait for,
so turned his gaze to the West.
It is noteworthy that all these seeming domestic political problems
may at some point lead to serious geopolitical reorientation. If
the United States and the European Union suddenly declared that they
invest in Armenia, say, 2 billion investment and intend to create a
Silicon Valley here, the question of orientation of Armenia will be
resolved by itself - without regard to Moscow.
