ARMENIAN TRADITIONAL DISHES REGISTERED BY OTHER STATES

    SEPTEMBER 23, 2011
    YEREVAN

Our national dishes are owned by our neighbor and non-neighbor states,
Chairman of "Preservation and Development of Armenian Culinary
Traditions" Sedrak Mamulyan told today a press conference.

"Among those countries we may point out Georgia, Iran, Turkey,
Bulgaria, which register our dishes at a state level, and if need
be can sue if we speak about those dishes as our national ones," he
noted, adding that also cooks are guilty for that flaw, and there is
a need of a joint work.

According to him, Georgia has registered "khash" as a Georgian dish,
and dolma has been registered by Turkey, Bulgaria, Moldova, the Arabic
states. "That is, these states write down these dishes in the list
of their non-material heritage without mentioning that they are of
Armenian origin. Suchlike steps have a goal to gain advantage, and
the advantage is gained over the strong," he said.

Sedrak Mamulyan considers that preservation of dishes is connected
with national identity. He expressed hope that with the support of
the Culture Ministry they will be able to register Armenian dishes
    as a brand.
