Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan's visit to Romania started with a
visit to the Armenian Center in Bucharest.
The head of government was welcomed by Head of Romania Diocese,
Very Reverend Tatev Archimandrite Hacobyan, Vice President of
Romanian-Armenians' Union, head of parliamentary ethnic minority
group Varuzhan Pambukchyan, other community executives, scholars,
businessmen and community members.
After making his greeting remarks, Tigran Sargsyan toured the Center,
visited Surb Hreshtakapetats Armenian Church, Dudian Culture House and
the Armenian Museum. The Premier next called at Ararat and Nor Kyank
magazines' headquarters, Ararat Publishing House and the Armenian
Sunday school of Bucharest.
Addressing the attendees at the conference hall of the Culture House,
Tigran Sargsyan congratulated them on Armenia's independence 20th
anniversary noting the Diaspora's important role in the reinstatement
of Armenian nationhood. The Premier stressed the key role of the
Armenian community of Romania as to the preservation of the Armenian
identity across the countries of Eastern Europe.
As to the meaning of independence 20th anniversary, the Prime
Minister stated in part: "Our people has had an independent State
for 20 years now freely disposing of the present and future days. We
are henceforth responsible for the destiny of our nation in acting
and making decisions. Like many other nations, we have a sovereign
State which must have a say in history." Tigran Sargsyan emphasized
that the Republic of Armenia is getting stronger by keeping in close
touch with the Diaspora.
In conclusion, the head of government answered the questions asked
by the audience.
