The military parade in Armenia is a puppet show, Azerbaijani official
Ziyafat Asgarov said on Friday.
"Armenia is not an independent state," he said. "It proved that it
remains Russia's outpost."
Russian soldiers were marching with the Russian flag in Yerevan,
he said.
On Wednesday, Yerevan held a military parade devoted to the 20th
anniversary of Armenia's independence. The military of the Russian
army attended the parade.
"This gives reason to say that Armenia does not conduct an independent
foreign policy today," he said. "It is not a sovereign state. It
continues to be Russia's outpost. I regret that this state occupied
20 percent of Azerbaijani territory. Unfortunately, no efforts are
made to remove the results of this occupation. On the contrary,
they try to delay this issue. We support the continuation of the
negotiations. We remain committed to these negotiations. Armenia
exhausts this limit every day."
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. -
are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.
