WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog faces Russia-based Gennady
Martirosyan later today in Krasnador making his second defence of the
belt won when inflicting Daniel Jacobs' first loss in July 2010.
The bout was for the then vacant belt and Pirog, 31, went into the
contest as a huge underdog against the slick American but eventually
came out on top with a stunning fifth round stoppage.
The champion now meets the 31 year-old challenger in a battle of two
former Russian middleweight champions and makes his second defence of
the title after a unanimous points win over Javier Maciel in March.
Martirosyan (22-2) comes into the bout on the back of five straight
wins with four inside schedule and the Armenian former WBO European
title holder will contest his first world title.
