A stamp devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Armenian-Russian
diplomatic relations was officially cancelled in Yerevan today in
the presence of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia Edward
Nalbandian and Sergey Lavrov. The two Foreign Ministers signed a
joint communique.
The Armenian and Russian Presidents have held 40 meetings over
the past three years, the political dialogue is on a high level,
the trade-economic relations are intensively developing, the
commodity turnover between the two countries totals $1 billion,
Russian investments in Armenia make $3 bln, Armenian Foreign Minister
Edward Nalbandian said at a joint press conference with his Russian
counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Yerevan.
Touching upon the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group, Sergey Lavrov said
"it has been honestly fulfilling its functions without retreating
from the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, the fundamental OSCE
documents and the UN Charter."
As for Azerbaijan's criticism of the mediator's activity, Lavros
said: "We have heard different statements, sometimes emotional or
non-official, but we are used to be guided by the official positions.
The official positions of Armenia and Azerbaijan are reflected in the
joint statement of the heads of two states and the three co-chairs
adopted during the OSCE summit in Astana in 2010. The statement, so
as the statements adopted as a result of trilateral meetings between
Presidents Medvedev, Sargsyan and Aliyev gives a high appraisal
to the work of the mediators, including the personal efforts of
President Medvedev."
Sergey Lavrov reminded that Russia has held about ten meetings with
the Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts with an aim of coming to an
agreement on the Basic Principles that should lie in the basis of the
peace treaty. "The work is not over, and during the meeting in Sochi
on January 23 the Presidents expressed willingness to continue their
efforts to reach an agreement. Russia is willing to do its best to
contribute to these efforts, taking into consideration the will of
the parties," he added.
