SARGSYAN SAYS ECONOMY'S WEAK POINTS ARE TAX AND CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION

    YEREVAN

YEREVAN, April 2. /ARKA/. During the Saturday's meeting of the Board of
Trustees of Armenia's National Competitiveness Armenian prime minister
Tigran Sargsyan said development of economy was still hindered by
    ineffective tax and customs administration.

"The weak points of our economy are tax and customs administration. We
hope that a set of reforms implemented in 2011, such as introduction of
electronic reporting system, reducing the total number of mandatory
reports, simplification of administrative rules lead to positive
results this year," he was quoted as saying by the government press
    office.

Sargsyan spoke about economic development trends, recalling,
particularly, the 4.6% economic expansion last year. According to him,
the important thing is that the economy continues to diversify with
    the share of industry growing.

He also said after a 15.7% decline in agricultural GDP in 2010 the
sector saw a 14% rise in 2011, which he said was due on the one hand,
to decline in 2010 and a set of projects implemented last year.

"The government subsidized part of loans, provided to farmers, a total
of 14 billion drams. It also helped purchase fertilizer and seeds,"
    he said.

In addition, according to the prime minister, the government managed
to reduce the budget deficit from planned 3.9% to 2.7%. The projected
    deficit for 2012 is 2.9%.

"We will implement the policy of gradual deficit reduction," the prime
minister said, adding that this year the focus of the government will
    be on export promotion.
