ARF TO PRESS FOR SWEEPING SALARY HIKE FOR MEDICAL STAFF

YEREVAN, April 5. /ARKA/. A parliament member from the opposition
Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun party, said his party
would press for a 7-fold salary hike for doctors and a ten-fold hike
for hospital nurses in the new parliament that will be elected in
the May 6 polls.
Speaking at a gathering that was convened by the Armenian Association
of Maternal and Child Health, Artsvik Minasian cited official data
which say a median doctor salary now is 70,000 drams (about $180)
and that of a nurse is 55,000 drams.
He said the election program of the party calls also for introduction
of additional taxes on foods with high percentage of fat and salt. It
also calls for a number of benefits to employees of health sector,
he added.
Minasian said the ARF will support introduction of mandatory
health insurance, noting that socially vulnerable segments of the
population, according to the party's program, should receive free
health insurance. He said the party's 147-point platform will be
unveiled on April 9. ($1 - 391.32 drams).
