OSCE MINSK GROUP NATIONS COULD BE REPLACED - LAVROV

Whether one of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group of the Organization
for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) should be replaced
depends on Azerbaijan and Armenia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov said in Baku on Wednesday, speaking before the alumni of the
local branch of Moscow State University.
Each OSCE MG candidacy was agreed on with Azerbaijan and Armenia,
including France, which "later joined Russia and the United
States because of the Europeans' desire to participate in conflict
resolution," he said, commenting on a possible replacement of France
with the EU in the OSCE MG.
"If some party stopped being satisfied with some candidate for some
reason, it is entitled to discuss the matter," Lavrov said.
Earlier the European Parliament Commission for External Relations
suggested replacing France with the EU in the OSCE MG.
Meanwhile, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood
Stefan Fule said in Baku last Tuesday that the EU is not planning to
replace France as the OSCE MG co-chair.
