3 PEOPLE SENTENCED FOR COMMITTING HIGH TREASON, 3 MORE PEOPLE SENTENCED FOR NOT REPORTING ABOUT IT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

The Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative
districts sentenced K. Mehrabyan, R. Matevosyan and A. Chtkryan to
imprisonment for committing high treason.
According to the evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation
carried out by the Investigation Department of the National Security
Service of the Republic of Armenia it turned out that three citizens
of Armenia K. Mehrabyan, R. Matevosyan and A.
Chtkryan had been recruited by the Azerbaijani intelligence services in
Turkey and offered to cooperate with them in exchange for appropriate
payment. In particular, they had been tasked to find information
about the Armenian and Nagorno Karabakh armed forces, commanders,
units and equipment quantity.
Besides, it turned out that the citizens of Armenia K. Petrosyan, A.
Avetikyan and D. Avetikyan knew that K. Mehrabyan had committed to
provide information to the Azerbaijani intelligence services and
failed to report about it to the law enforcement agencies.
Based on the evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation K.
Mehrabyan and R. Matevosyan were charged according to the RA Criminal
Code Article 299, part 1, A. Chtkryan was charged according to the RA
Criminal Code Article 38-299, part 1 and K. Petrosyan, A. Avetikyan
and D. Avetikyan were charged according to the RA Criminal Code
Article 335, part 1.
According to the Decision of the Court of First Instance of Kentron
and Nork-Marash administrative districts issued on 6 April, 2012 K.
Mehrabyan was found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article
299, part 1 and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
R. Matevosyan was found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code
Article 299, part 1 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
A. Chtkryan was found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article
38-299, part 1 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
K. Petrosyan and A. Avetikyan were found guilty pursuant to the RA
Criminal Code Article 335, part 1 and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months
in prison. They were taken into custody from the courtroom.
D. Avetikyan was found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article
335, part 1 and sentenced to fine in the amount of 500 000 AMD taking
into consideration the fact that he has a minor child.
