MP from Prosperous Armenia Party Naira Zohrabyan responded to Heritage
Party's Deputy Chairman Ruben Hakobyan's announcement that if the
leaders of the 4 political forces will not sign the agreement of
a joint structure for coordinating the elections, then they might
withdraw their signature.
"We are a disciplined party and if Vardan Oskanyan signed the
agreement it means he had the authorization of PAP leader Gagik
Tsarukyan. If this is only an excuse for the given party to not fulfill
responsibilities then I will advise not to make incomprehensible
announcements. We all know the real motivation for such behavior,"
Naira Zohrabyan mentioned.
Earlier Armenian News-NEWS.am had informed that, Armenian National
Congress (ANC), Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), ARF Dashnaktsutyun and
Heritage Party signed an agreement on creating a joint headquarter for
coordinating and controlling elections. Deputy Chairman of Republican
Party of Armenia Galust Sahakyan did not sign the agreement.
To remind, during the meeting on Wednesday Deputy Chairman of Heritage
Party Ruben Hakobyan made a statement. He demanded that the leaders of
the political forces who agreed to join the joint election headquarter
sign the agreement. Besides that he proposed to create a commission or
working group which will control the work of charitable foundations
which hand out bribes. Heritage threatened to leave the structure if
their two demands were not fulfilled.
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) is a political power included in the
ruling coalition.
Founded by Armenian biggest businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, the party
debuted in 2007 Armenian parliamentary elections, winning 29 seats
in 131-seat Armenia's National Assembly.
The proportional list of the party includes 165 names. PAP has also
nominated MP candidates with the majority election system. Prosperous
Armenia Party's election campaign slogan is: "Believe, trust, demand!"
Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations
- Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats
Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage
Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic
Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.
For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes,
while blocks - over 7%.
The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to
elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections
will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
