The events continue to become heated over the Yerevan State Linguistic
University. Despite the efforts which the university's management,
the staff and the rector Suren Zolyan have been taking since morning,
the students of the university came out to the street after 2:00pm.

Those gathered moved towards the ministry of education and science
with numerous posters of protest and chanting. They demanded to
have annulled the minister's decree about their rector's dismissal
by tomorrow. Before the ministry building already the students held
a demonstration and demanded that Minister Armen Ashotyan comes down
and speaks to them. In answer, the minister invited their delegation to
him, but the students, in their turn, didn't respond to the invitation
and moved towards the government building.

Suren Zolyan answered the questions of the journalists gathered at
the university if there are political motives in his dismissal or not.

Zolyan said he cannot make any assumptions and said there are no such
motives. Nevertheless, he noted a tendency of acting against him but
he is not aware of its reasons. Suren Zolyan said once again that the
minister's steps are illegal and has turned to court, as well as to
the prime minister to dispute them. He has said he believes in the
impartiality of our courts and the issue will still become a topic
of discussion in the European structures.

Touching upon the information about winding up the linguistic
university and uniting it with the pedagogical university Zolyan said
he cannot definitely deny it but doesn't consider it serious. He
cannot deny it definitely as two years ago some things happened
about which he preferred to keep silent till now. Two years ago by
the decree of Minister Armen Ashotyan the university was deprived of
the license to promote activity in the specialties of Linguistics and
Intercultural Communication. The minister, of course, annulled the
decree under serious pressures. Otherwise, according to Zolyan the
university would really be wound up losing the overwhelming majority
    of the staff and students.

To note, the university's lecturers also circulated a manifesto today
    in protection of Zolyan.

We should also inform that the TV programme "Yerkri Harts" [The Issue
of the Country] of Yrekir Media TV Company will host Suren Zolyan
today. You can watch it at 10:30pm.
