DIYARBAKIR. - A delegation led by the president of the World Council
of Assyrians Johny Messo met with Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir.
As the Turkish Haberler informs, the mayor mentioned that a great
tragedy happened in the beginning of the 20th century as a result
of which the Armenians, Assyrians and Yezidis had to leave their
hometowns.
"They suffered much and left, but be assured that it is us, who stayed
here, that lost something. After they left, we got poor and lost our
peace. The new generation faces the history and condemns the cruelties
of the past," Osman Baydemir stated.
