About 245 extremely endangered monuments exist in Armenia. In case
of allocation of financial means it will be possible to partially
restore them, Serzhik Aarakelyan, head of Historical and Cultural
Monuments Protection Agency of Armenia's Ministry of Culture told
the reporters today.
'If any private company expresses readiness to assist in restoration
of any monument, Culture Ministry will provide its specialist and
means for the implementation of works,' he said.
Serzhik Arakelyan also noted that thanks to such format of cooperation
Odzun temple is being currently renovated. The monument to the memory
of Russian soldiers killed during the Russian-Persian war will soon
be renovated in Oshakan. Apart from it, 'New Varaga' monastery and
'Akhtala' monument will be restored.
'The number of endangered monuments will decrease during the time
but it will be wrong to say that we will solve the issue in one-two
years,' Arakelyan said.
'For the implementation of our work we do not only need the assistance
of philanthropists but the community as well. Because the latter
also bears responsibility for preservation of monuments,' Serzhik
Arakelyan said.
The number of historic and cultural monuments in Armenia reaches
24 500.
