DAMASCUS, (SANA)- President Bashar al-Assad has received congratulatory
cables on the occasion of Syria's Independence Day from the presidents,
kings and leaders of a number of countries, as well as from the
secretaries of international organizations, ambassadors and a number
of Arab and international figures. The congratulatory cables included
those from the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Indian President
Pratibha Patil, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, Chairman of the
Supreme Council of the Egyptian Armed Forces Mohamed Hussein Tantawi,
President of Democratic Korea Kim Jong-un, Pakistani President Asif
Ali Zardari, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President
of Maldives Mohammad Wahid, Agha Khan, the spiritual leader of the
world's Shiite Ismaili Muslims, Catholicos Karekin II of the Armenian
Catholics and the FAO Director General Jose Graziano da Silva.
The cables' senders expressed their deepest congratulations to
President al-Assad and the Syrian people on this occasion, voicing
support to Syria and hope that it will remain safe and impervious as
ever under prevailing stability and security.
