" Azerbaijani side doesn't contribute to the stability in the
contact line keeping the situation strained. It's hard to make any
conclusions from Azerbaijani president's statements, as he may approve
implementation of confidence-building actions, and may critically
deny them," military expert Gagik Karapetyan told Panorama.am.
Members of European Parliament call on Azerbaijan and Armenia
to do more to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in EU-Armenia
Association Agreement resolution. The resolutions condemn the region's
militarisation and high military expenditure and call on EU Member
States to stop supplying weapons and munitions to both countries.
Parliament also calls on the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to
tone down the language of their statements to pave the way for a
genuine dialogue.
According to the expert there are deep contradictions between
Azerbaijan's political and military leaderships, hence vows made by
Aliyev are later abandoned.
"The Armenian side has repeatedly expressed commitment to withdraw
snipers from the contact line, however, official Baku rejected the
proposal," said the expert.
