The building of V. Bryusov University may be sold and turned into a
hotel, Yerkir newspaper reports.
The paper reports that by rumors Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan
advocated for dismissal of V. Bryusov University Rector Suren Zolyan
and aggravates tension between Minister of Education Ashotyan and
Rector Zolyan. "By our data, a preliminary agreement on sale of
the university building has been made with a businessman from the
Armenian Diaspora, who is going to turn the university into a hotel,"
the paper writes.
Minister Ashotyan hastily refuted those rumors on his Facebook profile
calling it misinformation and slander.
Earlier Zhoghovurd newspaper wrote that the scandal over Zolyan's
dismissal was advocated by ex-president Robert Kocharyan's spokesperson
Victor Soghomonyan. However, Zolyan refuted the given rumors.
To recall, on April 17 Armenian Minister of Education and Science
Armen Ashotyan signed a decree on dismissal of Souren Zolyan from the
post of the Rector of the Yerevan State Linguistic University and on
termination of the labor contract signed with Zolyan on 17 March 2008.
The press service of the Ministry reported that the dismissal was
preceded by two disciplinary sanctions imposed on Zolyan on April
6 and April 17. The first severe reprimand was for the fact that
Zolyan ignored Armen Ashotyan's instruction not to leave Armenia over
the period from 19 to 23 March and devolved his responsibility upon
another person. The second reprimand was the response to the numerous
violations revealed at the Yerevan State Linguistic University during
the inspection carried out by the Ministry on March 20-27.
