ARMENIA MARKS GENOCIDE REMEMBRANCE DAY
Voice of Russia
April 24 2012
Today Armenia marks Genocide Remembrance Day to commemorate an
estimated 1.5 million Armenians who were killed during World War I.
Thousands of people turned up at the Genocide memorial in the Armenian
capital, Yerevan earlier today.
Commemorations will also be held among Armenian communities dispersed
across the globe.
Armenia annually marks April 24 as the start of a Turkish campaign in
1915 which targeted ethnic Armenians. This issue is still tarnishing
the relations between the two nations.
A large number of countries, including Russia, have already officially
recognized the Armenian Genocide. Turkey refuses to follow suit.
