WHAT DOES THE MINISTRY OF NATURE PROTECTION THINK OVER?

www.aravot.am has informed today that as a result of the protest
organized by environmentalists demanding to dismantle an illegal
building in Khosrov Reserve yesterday, the Ministry of Nature
Protection of the Republic of Armenia has held a meeting today with the
participation of the environmentalists and members of the interagency
committee examining the mentioned issue.
Yeghia Nersisyan, an environmentalist, has just informed the details of
the discussion during a conversation with www.aravot.am. In response to
a question whether the discussion had been efficient, Yeghia Nersisyan
said, "Not fully." Then talking about the details of the discussion,
he stated, "It has become clear from the discussion that the ministry
thinks over
the issue of destroying or not destroying the half-finished building.
They say, the man has invested, has had the half of the building
built, anyway, in case of dismantling, an issue of compensation will
arise. The interagency committee established by the ministry will
negotiate with Hovazadzor, the company that has built the building,
till September." In response to our question why the negotiations were
necessary, if building in that area was banned, thus, the half-finished
building was illegal, Yeghia Nersisyan said, "That question has
occurred to us environmentalists too... we will have to wait and see."
The environmentalist informed us that during the discussion, the issue
of banning ecotourism in Khosrov Reserve and returning the reserve
a reserve status was also raised. According to Yeghia Nersisyan, the
Minister of Nature Protection agreed with them on that issue, stating
that even the locals had to be banned from entering the reserve,
since anyone could enter the reserve these days, paying 500 AMD.
