Recently the regular session of the interdepartmental commission
on exploitation of the Kashen mine located within the territory of
Vardadzor, Jankatagh and Nerqin Horatagh villages, Mardakert region,
was convened. During the open-to-journalists session the participants
introduced the norms and standards to be used to estimate how the
land and water resources as well as the flora and fauna of the area
influence the health of people.
The environmental influence estimation programme is to be worked out
until the construction or reconstruction of a new enterprise or during
the existing factory operation re-equipment and expansion stages.
The environmental influence of the Kashen mine exploitation will
have been estimated by the end of the year, the session participants
informed.
As leader of the working group Hovhannes Nikoghosyan reported
before the exploitation of the mine experts would conduct the local
inhabitants' background health examination and estimation in order
to register further changes.
As the leader of the working group assured the flora and fauna
researches are not complete yet whereas in spring 6 specimens of
the water reservoirs were submitted to chemical analysis, 18 land
specimens were studied.
Head of the Tourism Department Sergey Shahverdyan stated that from
the point of view of historical environment preservation the area
had never been researched. He also reminded that only the visible
monuments were included into the state monuments registry but it was
not still clear what would be discovered during the explorations.
Executive Director of "Base Metals" CJSC Artur Mezhloumyan who
participated in the session assured that the company was ready to
financially support the research activities and , if needed, to pay
the expenses for the transportation of the discovered goods. The
tourism department head in his turn accepted the proposal.
In answer to the question of one of the journalists NKR Minister
of Economic Development Karen Yesayan noted that the problem of
transportation of families to the spot was being discussed. It has
already been determined to build new houses for seven families in a
new modern district.
