YEREVAN, AUGUST 6, ARMENPRESS: Around 60 Syrian Armenian families have
applied to the Ministry of Diaspora for receiving shelter and 30 of
them already have status of refugee and have been secured with flats.
The rest have not yet decided and rented a flat.
Armenpress reports that during the press conference on August 6
chairman of committee of Syrian Armenian issues Firdus Zakaryan
mentioned that at present in Armenia there are almost 2500 Syrian
Armenians. It is expected that their number will rise by 500-600 in
coming future. In hi opinion majority of Syrian Armenians in future
will return to Syria.
Several months ago Syrian Armenian Gevorg Payasyan rented a flat in
the capital. He tells that only one of his sons has found a job yet.
The family still has financial problems. "We are already citizens of
the Republic of Armenia. We keep contact with our relatives in Syria
who tell that there is not gas there" mentioned the Syrian Armenian.
In order to help Syrian Armenians the Republic of Armenia has
simplified the passport procedures for Syrian Armenians. Now they
do not have to come to Yerevan: they can be given passport in the
embassy of Armenia to Syria or in other diplomatic bodies.
The ministry of Diaspora has raised an issue to organize the education
of Syrian Armenians in Armenia.
